Alone, but so at home presents a series of abstract works by emerging artist Lotte Frances, exploring the complexities of queerness, loneliness and memory. The expansiveness of painting allows these feelings to be reflected into a unique visual language, language that is playful, yet balanced on the sharp edge of vulnerability. The works include experimental, distorted marks, motions and colour to express sensitive feelings, constructing an image that is mysterious yet oddly intimate. For Frances, the practice of painting is a like a diary, bearing the marks of their day, their emotions, the music they listened to and their surroundings, whilst operating as a form of visual analysis exploring streams of consciousness that echo between childhood and adulthood. The show forms a conversation between the past and present, focusing on the stain of certain memories whilst exploring the depths of the current moment. Even as a reminiscence on memories of loneliness, these works provide a sense of hope, and aim to celebrate self-
acceptance.
